This is some of the work I have completed during my time with the University of Maryland’s Football Recruitment division. My job is to work with the division in creating custom graphics for various recruitment activities, whether it’s a custom email greeting or an informational letter. The job requires a deep understanding of Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator as well as a creative eye and a detail-oriented mindset.
This internship has allowed me to express my creative freedom while teaching me the importance of working with a team, and for that, I am forever grateful. UMD’s Football Recruitment division often gives me very open-ended prompts for ideas, allowing me to show off my creative skills in the field of graphic design. At the same time, though, they provide constructive criticism and suggestions to align my ideas with their overall brand, which gives me invaluable experience designing in a professional setting. This opportunity has given me the incredible experience of being able to practice my individual design skills while learning how to design professionally.
This experience is not only valuable for a potential career in graphic design or web design, but the ability to take constructive criticism is valuable for any endeavor, creative or otherwise. Being able to admit one’s flaws and actively work toward bettering oneself and their work is the best way to grow as a person, personally and professionally. I believe that anyone can improve themselves with the right mindset and effort, and my work with this team has only solidified this belief.
