Amazon Sexist Hiring AI Ad Campaign

This project, the final project in my recent INST204 course at UMD, consisted of creating a sudo-advertising campaign to inform the public about machine learning and its negative impacts on the hiring process. I worked with an interdisciplinary group of students ranging from computer scientists to social scientists to develop designs and research the topic we were advertising. My job was as lead designer, putting together layouts and turning prototypes into reality through Adobe Illustrator.

We decided to frame this discussion around the 2018 Amazon leak that exposed its use of artificial intelligence which was proven to be sexist, emulating a legitimate Amazon recruiting campaign in the process. We intentionally used Amazon brand colors, Amazon’s Ember font, and modeled layouts to fit within Amazon’s current brand guidelines as much as possible while communicating the dangers of artificial intelligence being used during the hiring process.

The basic structure of our campaign involved 5 simple, eye-catching posters that can be used online and be printed for outdoor use.
